ACHIEVING A MEDICAL MILESTONE

Test tube Wins were recent delivered ateity's Vidula Nursing Home using Embryo Freeing technique

A child is a bundle of joy, someone who gives a new meaning to life. A baby is the 'world' for the parents. Giving hope and happiness to many, the fertility clinics are giving service to the society. When, each day the field is seeing new developments, our city lags nowhere behind. Recently test tube twins were delivered at the Vidula Nursing Home in the city owned by Dr Pradeep Pawar and Dr Suvarna Pawar. "This is for the first time in North Maharashtra that test tube twins have been delivered using the Embryo Freezing Technology," says Dr Pradeep Pawar.

Dr Pawar explains that the option of In Vitro Fertilisation, (IVF), also known as test tube baby can be taken into consider-ation in cases of fallopian tube blocks in the female, absence of fallopian tubes, poor sperm quality, unexplained sperm quality (when both partners are normal and not able to conceive despite treat-ment) or premature ovarian failure (female unable to produce her own eggs despite therapy).

"Under the procedure of IVF, after the initial work up of both partners, the female is administered hormonal injec tions for effective egg growth. The eggs are retrieved out and incubated with the sperms. The embryos are then incubated with sperms. The embryos are then ineuhated in the incubator for 3 to 5 days and then Implanted in the uterus. The lady is advised to take rest for the remating period, till tests for confirmation of preg nancy is done. explicates Dr Pawar.

He further states that embryo freezing is a method wherein the excess embryos are stored for future use. In the present case, Mrs Naik (name changed) started the treatment for IVF in October last and 10 of her embryos were stored (freezed) for future use. This procedure is called Cyro Preservation. A special equipment called Embryo Freezer is used in which the embryos are stored in liquid nitrogen in minus 196 Degree Celsius. "When we have to use it, the embryos are brought back to normal temperature of 37 Degree Celsius," say the doctor couple.

The Naik couple was married for 12 years and had tried all sorts of treat ments. "When they came to me I sensed that the conventional method won't help, so we suggested them to go in for the TVE The first attempt after transferring embryos did not succeed, so the second attempt was made, using the embryo freezing technology. This turned out to be very successful," say the proud doctors. Both the twins are girls and are healthy babies weighing 2.2 and 2.3 pounds.
